The European Union’s top trade negotiator, Karel de Gucht, accused Argentina of being “the great obstacle” in an association agreement between the EU and the Mercosur, and threatened to take the case before the WTO.
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner gave a speech at the Summit for Heads of State of Mercosur and Associated States taking place in Brasilia today where affirmed that the country was “tired of being called protectionist by the European Union.”
Uruguayan President José "Pepe" Mujica ratified his decision to avoid conflicts with Argentina despite its "brutal protectionist" measures, and said they should face them with "shrewdness."
