Open Newsroom: a Herald event about how we cover the Argentine news

Come to hear a panel discussion led by Amy Booth, our managing editor, with correspondents Scott Squires of Bloomberg and Anna-Cat Brigida of Reuters

It can be complicated explaining what’s happening in Argentina to people who aren’t from here. Economic crises come one after the other, protests spring up from one moment to the next, and the political landscape can be turned upside down in a weekend.

From a journalistic point of view, having the agility to cover it in real time is one of the biggest challenges we face – and translating Argentina’s uniqueness to people who don’t live here adds an extra layer of complexity. How do you explain Peronism, convert pesos to dollars, or explain your World Cup cábalas?

It’s challenging, but for those of us who love journalism, it’s our calling in life. That’s how we work at the Buenos Aires Herald, and many colleagues share that spirit. So, we’ve decided to open our newsroom to invite journalists from other media that we admire and that motivate us to keep writing for international audiences.

On June 13 at 6 p.m. we invite you to visit our newsroom for the first time.

We want our newsroom to be open to anyone who’s interested in our journalism. Showing you how the news-gathering process works allows us to be close to our audience and build a relationship of trust with the work we do.

We want to be more than a newspaper, we want to be a community.

So, in this first event, we’ll have a conversation between me, the Herald’s managing editor, and correspondents Scott Squires of Bloomberg and Anna-Cat Brigida of Reuters.

The conversation will be entirely in English, so if you’d like to practice, this will be a good opportunity.

There will also be projections of documentary photography about Argentina by franco-argentine photojournalist Anita Pouchard Serra.

The event is free but you need to register in advance – spaces are limited, so we encourage you to apply early!

We look forward to seeing you at La Maquinita, our beloved home.
