Official Argentina 2022 World Cup film to hit theaters in December

The new documentary ‘Elijo Creer’ will feature exclusive inside footage and interviews with the football players

Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory in Qatar will hit the big screen as a documentary on December 14. Named after the phrase that permeated most of Argentine society in the lead up to football’s most important tournament, Elijo creer (I Choose to Believe), will be an inside account of the win told by the players.

The news was announced yesterday by Argentine Football Federation (AFA) president Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia at the Albiceleste’s training ground at Ezeiza.

“The film will show some of what we experienced during that wonderful World Cup that made us all so happy. We are very excited to relive that time and share it with the fans,” said Tapia.

The documentary was co-produced by GM, Tronito, Grupo Octubre and AFA, who had already worked on Selección Argentina, la serie: Camino a Qatar, the Amazon Prime series that followed the work of the team led by Lionel Scaloni from its Copa América win in Brazil 2021 to the World Cup.

“We hope all our work can be seen in this film,” said Grupo Octubre CEO Víctor Santa María. “Which looks to be a reflection of the passion of the 45 million Argentines who went into the streets after the win.”

The announced run time will be 80 minutes, with footage filmed during the World Cup and exclusive interviews.

“Our goal was for the fans to see how the World Cup was for the players,” said producer Gonzalo Arias. “With an incredible amount of never seen before material we took from the team camp and the dressing rooms during the tournament.”

The documentary will feature many of the World Cup winners, such as Scaloni, Tapia,  Lionel Messi, Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, Ángel di María, and others. It will be screened in more than 300 movie theaters nationwide starting December 14, just four days shy of the one-year anniversary of the title win.
