Avoid fines: this is where you can park in Buenos Aires

As of today, parking on both sides of every street is allowed

From today, drivers will be allowed to park on both sides of the street in Buenos Aires City.

Previously, they were only allowed to do so between 9p.m. and 7a.m. During the rest of the day, parking was only allowed on the left side of the street.

With the new rules, cars will also be able to park on both sides of avenues from 9p.m. to 7a.m, as long as they’re not Metrobus avenues (such as Juan B Justo in Palermo and Cabildo Avenue in Belgrano), where parking will remain forbidden.

Parking in bike lanes will remain forbidden, too: on those streets, cars will only be able to park on the side where there is no cycle lane.

The new parking law, which aims to create 28,000 new parking spaces, will affect the 2,100 streets, 150 passages and 230 avenues in Buenos Aires.

According to Francisco Pérez Martínez, BA city undersecretary for mobility, the measure came up during surveys, where 70% of people expressed confusion about where they were allowed to park.

The changes came after the City Legislature approved a series of parking rule changes  in 2022. With the new measures, here’s the complete list of places where you can’t park:

  • Garage entrances
  • Bus and taxi stops
  • Entrances to police and firemen stations
  • Entrances to places where public events are being held
  • Less than 50 meters away from level railway crossings
  • Wherever there is a yellow line painted in the curb line
  • Bike lanes
  • Avenues with Metrobus

If in doubt, drivers can ask the city’s WhatsApp bot, “Boti”, whether they can park in a specific area on 115-050-0147.
