Aeroparque operates with delays after being shut down for an hour due to fake bomb threat

The threat was made against 4 flights set to leave the BA City airport for Mendoza

Aeroparque Internacional Jorge Newberry airport is functioning normally but with delays after a bomb threat halted all operations for close to an hour Friday morning. The threat, which was deemed false after a bomb squadron inspected the premises, was made against four flights from different companies set to leave the BA City airport for Mendoza.

A press representative for Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 (AA2000), the company that operates the airport, confirmed to the Herald that the threats were made on a AA2000 chat line against two flights from FlyBondi, one from Aerolíneas, and one from JetSmart. Only one of the four flights had already taken off when the threat came in, a FlyBondi service that left at 9.45 a.m. The three remaining flights were scheduled to leave later.

Airport Security Police and the Federal Police Anti-Explosives Brigade intervened. Passengers on board flights ready to depart as well as those in pre-boarding were evacuated, and all flights were temporarily halted as a bomb squadron searched the site. Flights that were set to arrive in Aeroparque were rerouted to land in Ezeiza.

This is the third bomb threat made this week against companies or official institutions in Argentina. On Wednesday, the embassies of Israel and the United States in Argentina received bomb threats. Federal bomb squadrons were sent to both sites to investigate. The Israeli facilities on Avenida de Mayo were evacuated, and the police blocked the streets surrounding the site. The U.S. Embassy was not evacuated. The threats turned out to be false, and a man accused of making them was arrested on Thurday
