Trump, Bolsonaro and Vox’s Abascal congratulate Javier Milei

Right-wing leaders across the world praised Argentina’s new far-right president following Sunday’s election

Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro, the former right-wing presidents of the US and Brazil, congratulated La Libertad Avanza (LLA) candidate Javier Milei for winning Argentina’s presidential elections on Sunday.

“Congratulations to Javier Milei on a great race for President of Argentina. The whole world was watching! I am very proud of you. You will turn your Country around and truly Make Argentina Great Again!” posted Trump on his Truth Social account.

“Hope shines again in South America,” posted Bolsonaro on his X account

“Congratulations to the Argentine people for their victory with Milei,” said the former Brazilian president, who also wished for the “good winds to reach the US and Brazil,” so that “honesty, progress, and freedom return.”

Santiago Abascal, leader of Spanish far-right party Vox also congratulated Milei on social media.

“Congratulations, dear Milei on your great victory in the Argentine presidential elections,” he said. “A path of future and hope is opening up for the Argentineans and for Ibero-America, which we celebrate in Spain with a special joy. Long live Spain, long live Argentina, live free of socialism and sovereigns!” Abascal posted on X.

María Corina Machado, the opposition leader in Venezuela, also celebrated on X.

“Congratulations to all Argentines for an exemplary electoral project and their president-elect, Javier Milei. The fight for change and freedom moves forward in Latin America. Long live Argentina, long live free Venezuela!”

El Salvador ultra-right wing president Nayib Bukele didn’t openly praise Milei’s win, but instead chose to troll Colombian leftist president Gustavo Petro for describing Argentina’s decision as “sad for Latin America” and saying that “neo-liberalism doesn’t have anything to offer to society anymore.”

Bukele quoted Petro’s X post with a laughing-face emoji.

“Now, say it without crying,” wrote Bukele.
