Deputy from Milei’s party posts right-wing Taylor Swift conspiracy theory

Lilia Lemoine shared a video stating that the singer is part of a plan to beat Donald Trump in the upcoming US elections

La Libertad Avanza (LLA) deputy Lila Lemoine accused Taylor Swift of being a weapon of the left used to send political messages globally through her fame and music. This is not something Lemoine came up with, but a conspiracy theory that has been gaining popularity over the past few weeks.

The whole thing apparently started in 2023, when Taylor Swift started showing up at NFL games to support her partner, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She received only a few seconds of airtime in each appearance, racking up 5 minutes in total, according to the New York Times. The attention she grabbed was enough for MAGA supporters to jump to conclusions.

According to right-wingers on social media, YouTube videos, and mainstream news outlets, this is all a plot orchestrated by the NFL and the Democrats to make Donald Trump lose his bid for the presidency, with Taylor Swift herself as the weapon of choice.

Former Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy fueled the idea on X. “I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month. And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here,” he posted. Ramaswamy had previously shown his support for Milei’s chainsaw plan.

Swift has not hidden her political affinities. In 2018, the artist spoke out against Senate Republican candidate Marsha Blackburn and endorsed the Democratic contenders in the Tennessee race.

In 2020, she openly endorsed Joe Biden’s candidacy for president. That same year, Swift premiered the documentary Miss Americana, where she opens up about her political beliefs and the importance of speaking out.

Argentine Swifties learned from all those years. When the pop icon arrived in Latin America with the Era’s Tour, they protested Javier Milei’s candidacy by saying “Swiftie no vota Milei,” which translates to “a Swiftie won’t vote for Milei.”

Taylor Swift’s Psyop in Argentina

An idea that has been gaining traction across the right-wing spectrum in the United States has now landed in the Argentine Congress. Lilia Lemoine — who in addition to being a deputy is also an internet personality and cosplayer — took to X to show her followers a video hosted by a creator that addresses the so-called Taylor Swift Psyop and runs through it to explain how this affects politics worldwide.

The post got attention on X one day before the debate over the omnibus bill started. Although the content Lemoine shared states that the singer-songwriter is manipulative and part of an anti-Trump propaganda campaign, she later backtracked and denied that she was actually endorsing this view in her posts.

Before running this article, the Herald reached out to Lemoine for comment. The deputy said that she believed there were more important issues on the legislative agenda and declined to comment. She proceeded to post a screenshot of the exchange on X.
