The Upper House passed a law which modifies the Electoral Code, which will make the DNI identity card a sole ID and will eliminate the old booklet, will no longer be used for voting.
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner signed today the decree that formally made the teen suffrage bill into law whilst hosting a celebratory ceremony at the Government House over 20 million DNI cards being handed out.
Accompanied by Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo, Interior Secretary Marcio Babarosa Moreira, y and Renaper chief Mora Arqueta, the President praised the new DNI digital system stressing “these things can be achieved with hard work and patriotism.”
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced that Argentines would no longer need to carry their DNI booklet to vote, and that the DNI card would be enough to prove their identity at the polling station.
Planning Minister Florencio Randazzo praised the new electronic card format for the National Document of Identity (DNI), which yesterday was amended in order to “simplify the lives of Argentine citizens.
