    The Copa América is the oldest international competition in the world, but it was wrongly named from the start. It was created as a South American championship for national teams and not for all America. The only reason for inviting countries from outside this continent is the same which has wrecked competitions in many other sports — to widen the TV coverage which means more money.

    Copa América kicks off

    Argentina will be hosting the 43rd edition of the Copa América. This is the continental football tournament in South America, which along with the European Championships and the World Cup, is considered one of the major international football tournaments in the world. The opening ceremony will be held on 1 July at the Estadio Unico in La Plata.
