Subway free all week
In defiance of the fare hikes issued by the City government last week following its takeover of the subway’s administration, the Subway and Tram Workers Union Association yesterday created a multi-sector front which will continue to let passengers ride for free all week.
In protest of the sudden 127.2 percent fare increase, the association’s representatives said in a written statement: “We will stage a joint protest that will last all week in repudiation of the hike. During this protest we will let passengers ride for free.”
Representatives also urged the opposition to “urgently” hold a public hearing “at which a matter of this nature should be discussed,” as stated at the City's Constitution.
Starting on Monday and ending on Friday 13, passengers will be allowed to ride the subway for free when entering the following stations, from 7am to 10am:
Carabobo, Miserere, Los Incas, Lacroze, Constitución, Retiro, Congreso de Tucumán, Juramento, Bolívar, Plaza de los Virre-yes and Once.
And from 4pm to 7pm:
Plaza de Mayo, Perú, Alem, Florida, Retiro, Constitución, Catedral, Pueyrredón, Plaza de los Virreyes, Bolívar and Once.
