Aeroparque, Ezeiza resume activities, to be normalized on Monday
Airlines resumed their flights running from 6PM following the Crisis Committee meeting, although those flights heading to the Southern area of the country are still limited. Sources said the situation will be normalized by Monday.
All cancelled flights going to and from Jorge Newbery Metropolitan Airport (Aeroparque) and Ezeiza international airport remained suspended throughout the day, due to the lingering presence of volcanic ash in the skies.
Due to the continued chaos being caused by the ash cloud, the Crisis Committee met earlier to evaluate the situation and look into the possibility of lifting the suspension on flights.
The National Transport Secretary had reaffirmed that, “Bariloche, Chapelco, Esquel, Trelew, Viedma, Neuquén and Bahía Blanca” airports were to remain closed until the climatic conditions improved.
“Due to the further activity of the volcano, the terminals are to remain closed until the necessary security conditions are in place to continue the service,” he added.
Last night the Brazilian airport in the city of Bagé, in Río Grande do Sul state, was closed as a precautionary measure.
