Tomada admits gov't might eventually discuss income tax floor changes

Labour Minister, Carlos Tomada

Labour Minister Carlos Tomada mentioned the eventual changes to be made for the Income Tax floor, following CGT labour confederation’s claims. He stated that the changes "depend on conditions at the time", and said that the matter "cannot be handled by the Labour Ministry at present, but should be looked at elsewhere".

"The topic that comes up every year has to be looked at, but it all depends on the situation and the opportunities at the time. It’s a complex subject, which is being dealt with by everybody. Right now it is not on the Ministry of Labour’s priority list, but it is on the list of others," mentioned Tomada.

During a radio conversation, the Labour Minister furthered that, "we are referring to workers with a high income rate, a taxable resource which contributes to bettering general tax resources; to do with retirement plans and child benefits. It is made clear that a balance has to be kept between them."
