Police arrest Barreda after courts revoke house arrest sentence
Ricardo Barreda was arrested at his home in the Belgrano neighbourhood of Buenos Aires City after authorities had issued a warrant for his arrest. Barreda had violated his house arrest sentence with an outing that police deemed "unjustified."
Judge Raúl Dalto said he considered his decision to leave the house to be "unjustified." He is to be transported by the police to the Gorina prison, outside of La Plata.
“After his own statement and the video footage showing him walking on the sidewalk it was clear he had left his apartment without permission,” the judge explained.
Regarding the possibility of Barreda being released on parole, the judge said that was a different case.
“At least for now, this should not interfere with any possible decision to release him on parole next Monday. These two cases should be evaluated separately,” he concluded.
Ricardo Barreda murdered his wife, his mother-in-law and his two daughters in 1992 and was sentenced to life in prison. However, he was benefited with house arrest a few years ago due to good behavior and his lawyer recently requested for him to be released on parole.
