Copahue eruption: orange alert continues but 'situation is calm'

The Copahue volcano in Neuquen.
Neuquen province Governor Jorge Sapag informed the "orange alert" issued yesterday continued today although the situation following the eruption of the Copahue volcano was calmed and the volcano was "expressing normally."

"We are maintaining the orange alert but without forcing evacuations and continuing with the economic and touristic activities," he added stressing that heavy rains are forecast which is positive as they will resist the spread of ashes.

The Governor is scheduled to spend Christmas Eve in Caviahue locality and then will head another meeting of the Emergency Committee of Neuquen.
