High ranking police officers arrested in Santa Fe

The Chief and deputy chief of Pérez locality in Santa Fe province were arrested today along with other seven officers within the framework of a probe which investigates the alleged hiding of evidence collected during a proceeding.

Santa Fe province Public Security secretary Matías Drivet informed that the two chiefs of the radio patrol system and other police remained detained, while the other seven men were released.

The arrests were order of judge Mónica Lamperti, who received a formal complaint from a police officer, and thus the chief of Perez’s radio patrol system, Juan Carlos Giménez Claverol was arrested.

By decision of public prosecutor Carlos Cobani other eight officers were also detained.

Drivet said that the prosecutor told him that following the testifying of several officers, threw policemen were charged and the remaining six were released because they allegedly weren’t involved in any wrongdoings.

The judge’s probe began following an officer’s formal complaint after a proceeding led Monday night by the radio patrol system.

Four adults and two minors were arrested and a car and gun were seized. Once the detainees were taken to were taken to the police station, “a series of events which could be described as hiding of evidence followed” according to a spokesman.
