'Neighborhoods like Belgrano will always flood without proper works,' City Minister
Buenos Aires City Cabinet Chief Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, admitted today that in case of a same magnitude storm, the neighborhood of Belgrano will “flood again”, and urged the national government for help.
“We must tell people the truth”, Rodríguez Larreta said during a radio interview.
The City minister explained that the Vega stream, which runs underneath the streets of Belgrano, flooded and caused a major havoc in the northern city neighborhood.
Likewise, Rodríguez Larreta aimed to the national government and remembered: “We need the approval of the national administration to get an international loan so that we can start immediately with the containing and flood control works needed on the Vega.”
In the same tune, City Urban Development Minister, Daniel Chaín, revealed that the City administration has already asked for a loan approval at the World Bank “which are very happy with the joint works we’ve done in the past in the Maldonado River”.
The Maldonado River runs underneath the Juan B. Justo Avenue, and before the works used to flood during every single storm causing major damage to shops and apartment flats.
