CTA-CGT tension mounts after Moyano's approach to Macri
The Head of the CTA dissident umbrella union Pablo Micheli came on stage to suggest that CGT labour confederation secretary-general Hugo Moyano is making a "huge mistake" if a political alliance with Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri were established.
Micheli’s comments come after Moyano and Macri held a meeting on Monday in which
Moyano insisted that “having a collaborative attitude” with the City Mayor would be “interesting,” despite emphasizing the light-hearted character of conversation at the meeting.
“If they are planning an alliance, it would be nothing but a huge mistake and nothing good for our fellow workers of the CGT”, Micheli told reporters.
Likewise, Micheli remarked “But there’s nothing I can do about it. I can’t tell Moyano what to do”
Other political figures reacted to Monday’s meeting between Macri and Moyano. Thus, national deputy and key government ally Carlos Kunkel (Victory Front-Buenos Aires province) also suggested that Moyano was “making a grave mistake” in meeting with Macri, and expressed it would be “sad” if they decide to set a political alliance.
Kunkel’s dissident Peronist counterpart, Eduardo Amadeo, countered these claims by asserting that “the government is scared that the opposition might converse.”
