Schiavi, Jaime indicted for Once train crash probe

Former Transport Secretary Juan Pablo Schiavi

Federal Judge Claudio Bonadío indicted former Transport Secretaries Juan Pablo Schiavi and Ricardo Jaime in connection with the probe of the Once train crash which killed 51 people on February 22.

Bonadío also indicted businessmen Sergio and Mario Cirigliano, of Cometrans and Grupo Plaza transport companies, respectively, and ruled that they are taken into preventive custody. However, the will remain free due to a previous court ruling confirming their release.

Former TBA concessionary company president Carlo Ferrarti was also indicted with preventive custody.

Motorman Antonio Córdoba was acquitted.

Schiavi and Jaime were charged with abuse of authority and breach of duties of a public official for not properly monitoring the Sarmiento branch line, where the accident took place.
