Villa 31 residents lift Illia highway protest

Residents of the Villa 31 shanty town continued their protest this morning before the City Legislature in the downtown area of Buenos Aires City but lifted the roadblock which was in place on the Illia highway in the Retiro area.

The residents are demanding that the city slum area be urbanized, reinforcing that the Urbanization Law (3343) be passed.

Mirella Churqui, a representative for the neighbourhood said to the press: “what we want is the opening of the roads, the construction of schools and first aid centres.”

Churqui continued that “we just want to be integrated into society and have the basics services like electricity, water and gas.”
