Caló appointed secretary-general of pro-Government CGT
Metal union workers leader Antonio Caló was officially appointed as the secretary- eneral of the anti-Moyano CGT umbrella labour confederation, and assured he "will assume the responsibility of defending the Government’s model."
“I take on the responsibility of defending this model, and when we have to tell the Government that they are wrong, we will do so but with the respect they deserve. We will be cautious in doing so,” Caló said as he addressed fellow unionists in the closure of the pro-Government CGT Congress in the Obras Sanitarias stadium in the City neighbourhood of Nuñez.
“We proved that intelligence prevailed and that there is a united CGT. How will we not defend this model which allowed millions of citizens to access health insurance and pensions?” he added.
In July, the Central Labour Confederation once again reelected Hugo Moyano as Secretary General and the rift between the rivaling factions only deepened.
