Oyarbide's recusal from Moreno cases rejected

Federal Judge Norberto Oyarbide.

Federal Judges Ariel Lijo and Daniel Rafecas rejected Norberto Oyarbide’s recusal from cases involving Trade Secretary Guillermo Moreno.

Last week, Oyarbide recused himself from handling a lawsuit filed by a female customs agent accusing Moreno of gender violence and abuse of power, and also recused himself from handling a case in which the Government pressed charges against a group of citizens who made death threats against the controversial Trade Secretary.

Lijo rejected Oyarbide’s recusal in the probe of death threats against Moreno, while Rafecas rejected his fellow judge’s recusal of a case in which a customs agent accused Moreno of gender violence and abuse of power.

Oyarbide had recused himself from both cases and based his decision on grounds of moral violence and after a pot banging protest was staged outside the building where he lived in the City neighbourhood of Recoleta.
