No reports of deaths, major damage in Colombian quake
There were no immediate reports of deaths or major damage from a strong earthquake that struck the southwest of Colombia, local media reported.
A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Colombia on late morning. No tsunami warnings were issued and there was no immediate word on possible damage or casualties.
The 7.4-magnitude earthquake at 11:31 a.m. local time (1631 GMT) was centered about 50 kilometers south of Popayán, the capital of the Colombian department of Cauca.
It struck about 140 kilometers deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
