Passarella defends Almeyda: 'He deserves another chance'

River Plate's President Daniel Passarella offered a press conference in which he defended Coach Matías Almeyda by saying "he deserves another chance," because he received the post in the middle of a crisis.

"I want to appeal to the memory of River fans. I feel that Almeyda deserves another opportunity, because he won it," Passarella assured.

The head of the club stated that the current coach arrived in the middle of a crisis, "it was difficult to return to the First Division."

"They said I met with other coaches. They talked about La Volpe, Da Silva, Labruna, Carrasco, Troglio...that never happened. You know me and you know I always speak the truth," Passarella continued.

He added "it would be easier to remove Matías and hire another coach that the fans want - referring to Ramón Díaz -, but it's not my style."
