Victory Front senator wishes to make teen suffrage compulsory

Head of the Victory Front (FpV) Senator´s caucus Miguel Pichetto.

The head of the Victory Front caucus in the Senate Miguel Ángel Pichetto made clear the Kirchnerite lawmakers' stance on the teen suffrage bill stating that he thought the vote should be "made compulsory", in a radio interview today.

The bill, which was put forward by Kirchnerite senator Aníbal Fernández, is being debated by Senate committees today.

“I strongly feel teen suffrage should be made compulsory,” the lawmaker said.

Even still, Pichetto made clear that the idea “is still being developed,” and that there will be many more discussions and ideas bounced around regarding the matter.

The teen suffrage bill, if passed, will allow voters as young as 16-years-old vote in the next Argentine presidential election.
