PRO slams singer Fito Páez over controversial statements

The PRO party offered a response to the controversial statements made by popular rock singer Fito Páez, who criticized the City Government’s recent decision to implement a 0-800 number to denounced “political activities” in school.

“They are posers. I don’t know what they are defending, they don’t like to connect with others,” he said while being interviews on a radio show.

When referring to his statements, he assured that they just “come up.”

“I don’t want to think like this, but they almost force me to,” Páez added, as he wondered “if these guys ever listened to the Rolling Stones.”

“How can you vote for someone who once said that homosexuality is a disease?” he added in reference to City Mayor Mauricio Macri.

“Let’s stop this nonsense. This is the city of Charly Garcí and Jorge Luis Borgens,” he claimed.

Mayor Macri was later asked about Páez’s statements, and replied that “he was once again surprised.”

“That’s sad. This is not the Fito Páez that I once knew.”

City Cabinet Chief Horacio Rodríguez Larreta took to Twitter to address the controversy.

“Again with this, Fito? I appreciate you very much. As a musician you’re a genius but I do not understand your constant insults,” he tweeted.

“First you said you were disgusted by half of the City’s population, now you say we would have been snitches during the dictatorship years. Let’s stop the aggressions and all move forward.”

PRO lawmaker Cristian Ritondo also weighted in on the controversy and released a press statement assuring that “Mr. Páez knows very little about this country’s history.”

“He’s the court jester who, looking to score a piece of bread or to be hired in a festival, will recite by heart a few lines that he knows will please the Queen,” he said in reference to President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
