Online, abroad debit card purchases to be charged with 15% advance
Debit card purchases abroad and online purchases from foreign websites will also be charged with a 15 percent additional expense, AFIP tax agency sources confirmed. On Thursday, the government announced the measure charging 15 percent on credit card purchases abroad.
AFIP revenue agency head Ricardo Echegaray had assured the new regulation would not affect neither online shopping nor debit card purchases.
Credit card companies will have to report all the purchases done by holders, including those in foreign countries and in Argentina. The data will be cross checked with requests to buy foreign currency
Thus, AFIP seeks to have a stronger grasp on contributors, who according the agency’s data spent 7.4 billion pesos between January and June 18th 2012 in purchases paid with 168,000 credit cards.
