    Puricelli: Britain ‘ignorant’

    Defence Minister Arturo Puricelli responded to British Defence Secretary Philip Hammond’s remarks yesterday by reiterating “militarization” claims and highlighting Argentina’s “serious suspicions” that Britain is using nuclear weapons in the South Atlantic region. Puricelli said that “the only thing that (Hammond’s) statements show is that for (Britain), there is only one reason and it is that of force. For (Argentina), force is the right of the ignorant.”

    Brazil decries ‘monetary tsunami’

    DELHI — Brazil will push for its large emerging-market peers including China to denounce what it sees as unfair monetary policies by Europe and the US, raising the stakes in a global confrontation over economic imbalances. Brazilian Trade and Industry Minister Fernando Pimentel told reporters yesterday his country would seek such language in a communiqué at this week’s BRICS summit, which brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

    Annan says Syria accepts United Nations peace plan

    BEIRUT — Syria has accepted a UN-sponsored peace plan, international envoy Kofi Annan said yesterday.     Civil Code reform bill unveiled

    President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner presented a bill detailing the reform of the Civil and Commercial Codes yesterday evening from the Bicentennial museum at Government House. If passed, divorce, adoption, and artificial insemination processes will be “simplified,” pre-nuptial agreements will be permitted, civil unions will receive recognition before the law, and commercial societies will be able to be comprised of just one person.
