The detentions come just over a week ahead of a visit by Pope Benedict XVI, who is likely to bring up the issue of religious, political and human rights during his tour. The image of the woman on their shirts is of Laura Pollan, the group's former leader who died in 2011 of a heart attack.

Tensions between the two countries have escalated in recent months as the 30th anniversary of the 1982 war over the islands approaches next month.
