    CFK orders YPF intervention, appoints De Vido as controller

    After announcing the draft bill that seeks to expropriate 51 percent of Repsol-YPF oil and gas company, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner signed a decree ordering the intervention of the company, and appointing Planning Minister Julio De Vido, and Economy Deputy Minster Axel Kicillof as controllers.

    After Fernández de Kirchner’s announcement of the Government’s decision to expropriate Repsol-YPF, officials from all parties came in support or condemnation of the measure. Fernando “Pino” Solanas celebrated the “recovery of our oil,” while Civic Coalition leader Elisa Carrió considered that despite the initiative, “there is no rational plan to face the energy problem.”

    Woman accused of killing her son commits suicide

    Adriana Cruz, the woman accused of choking her six year old son in a hot tub to death, died last night after trying to commit suicide. Cruz hung herself in the bathroom of the prison she was held until trial around 11pm. She was immediately assisted and taken into a near hospital where she died this morning.
