May Day celebrated without presence of CGT

Members of social organizations march to the Obelisk to celebrate May Day.

Many different political groups and unions celebrated Labour Day, with three main ceremonies carried out in Buenos Aires City. Even still, the CGT Labour Confederation run by Hugo Moyano did not organise any events to celebrate or commemorate workers today. Yet, the CTA union held a rally at the Obelisk.

Every year, the CGT umbrella union usually carries out a mass rally and commemoration to workers in Buenos Aires, led by boss Hugo Moyano, but it was not the case of today's celebrations.

The sector of the CTA led by Pablo Micheli, along with the Corriente Clasista y Combativa (CCC) and the Workers Socialist Movement (MST) held a rally at the Obelisk, where they presented a number of claims to the government and called for a national strike for June 8.

The measure that will include marchs and pickets will be to demand "wage talks with 5,000 pesos floor, the elimination of the income tax," among others.

The other CTA union event was led by Hugo Yasky at the Boxing Federation centre in the Buenos Aires city neighbourhood of Once, where they also paid homage to the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo and their 35 anniversary of their first march.

“He doesn’t have the authority to talk about the point of view of the workers,” said CGT Human Right’s Secretary, Facundo Moyano, whilst commenting on Yasky’s event to be held today.
