Fidel Castro accuses Obama of trying to topple Chávez

Castro says Washington is promoting destabilizing plans aimed at toppling the Bolivarian government headed by Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez.
In his most recent reflections, published in Cuba’s Communist Party newspaper, former Cuban leader Fidel Castro says Washington is promoting destabilizing plans aimed at toppling the Bolivarian government headed by Venezuela’s President Hugo Chávez.

“It’s worrying that the government of the United States has decided in such circumstances to promote the downfall of the Venezuelan government,” Castro wrote.

Additionally, Castro alerted the dangers of such move. “An error by Obama, in such circumstances, could result in a river of blood in Venezuela,”

The article, title “What Obama Knows,” Castro says that President Chávez has worked relentless over the past twelve years and even after he became sick it was difficult to persuade him of the need to mainly focus on his health.

“His obligations never stray from his mind, not even for a minute and sometimes to the point of being overwhelming,” Castro pointed out. “I can testify to that because I’ve been in constant contact and communication with him.”
