Man arrested after siege, hostage situation in Central London

Members of the public gather on Tottenham Court Road as police seal off the street amid reports of an armed man causing a disturbance.
Police reported that a man has been arrested following what is thought to have been a hostage situation on Tottenham Court Road, Central London.

Police also said a search of the building is underway, and that they have not yet identified any hostages at this time, the local media informed.

Earlier, Police sent a hostage negotiator and evacuated the area around a building after the man threw computer equipment from a fifth floor window.

Witnesses said the man had taken around four people hostage and had threatened to blow up gas canisters he was carrying.

Aerial pictures showed several police cars and vans, ambulances and fire engines on scene. Transport for London said the nearby underground station at Goodge Street was closed.
