Malvinas gov't member rejects Argentine bid to resume flights to islands

Malvinas’ Legislative Assembly member Sharon Halford rejected on Wednesday Argentina's proposal to establish regular flights to the Malvinas Islands, presented by Argentine Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Alicia Castro, during a meeting with the British Minister of State Jeremy Browne in London yesterday.

“I was very surprised by the offer because, at the same time, they don’t allow us to have charter flights over the Argentine air space,” Halford told a local radio during an interview this morning.

“We don’t need it,” she remarked as she rejected the Argentine government's proposal.

“Personally speaking, my answer is no because we already have sufficient flights to the Islands. This offer means no improvements since we have three weekly flights to the UK and South America and no need for the extra flights,” she indicated.
