Macri admits YPF would remain Argentine if elected president
City Mayor Mauricio Macri once again criticized the Fernández de Kirchner administration over the decision to expropriate YPF, although he acknowledged that were he chosen president in 2015 the company would remain in the hands of the state.
“I am against this decision because it doesn’t solve the millionaire debt that it will leave us with,” Macri said.
However, he later clarified that “since we have already broken a commitment we took back in 92 and the damage is already done, I think it would not be wise to change again in 2015. We should continue running the company under this 51 percent - 49 percent scheme, but we should do it right.”
Macri explained that he would have “immediately applied the Petrobras scheme, because it seems smart, but I would do it responsibly.”
“My idea is having 49 percent of the company’s shares in the market so anyone can invest, and appointing professionals who know what they are doing.”
