McCartney blows Asunción away
“Hello Paraguay, mba’eichapa” (how are you), McCartney greeted his audience in Guarani, the language spoken by 80 percent of the population, before receiving an ovation from the excited people at the concert that lasted two hours and 45 minutes.
Along the legendary artist were Paul 'Wix' Wickens (keyboards), Rusty Anderson (guitar), Abe Laboriel Jr (drums) y Brian Ray (guitar and bass).
"¿Iporapa?" (Am I going well?), he asked by the middle of his presentation, that began with the “Magical Mystery Tour,” the iconic song of one of The Beatles’ movies, followed by “All My Loving” and “Drive my Car.”
During his show, McCartney played seven instruments, among conventional guitars, mandolin, bass and two pianos.
He also sang “Band on the Run” and dedicated songs for his late ex wife Linda (Maybe I’m Amazed) and his current wife, US Nancy Shevell (My Valentine).
The singer paid homage to “my dearest friend John” by singing “Here Today,” and later remembered his former band friend George Harrison by assuring that “he was good with the ukelele” and playing “Something.”
“Hey Jude” was played by the end of the show, but McCartney rapidly returned to the stage holding Paraguay’s flag to sing “Yesterday” and conclude with the hard rock “Carry That Weight.”
“Good bye Paraguay, see you next time,” he assured as he left the stage.
