PRO party lawmaker's bloc rejects YPF expropriation

Buenos Aires City Mayor, Mauricio Macri.

The centre-right PRO party lawmaker’s bloc rejected last night the draft bill putting forth the expropriation of petrol company YPF, which was yesterday sent to the Congress by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

“The debate isn’t about nationalization versus privatization, but rather how we are going to generate more energy at a lower cost,” stated the eleven members of the lawmaker’s bloc pertaining to Mauricio Macri’s administration, via a press communiqué.

Furthermore, the group administered by Buenos Aires’ City Mayor assured that “what worries us in the damage this decision could cause to Argentina’s capacity to have cheap and an abundant amount of energy to develop.”

From the group which lawmaker Federico Pinedo presides over also said that “the same people who supported the privatization in the 90s are now applauding the expropriation.”

In addition they stated that “with this decision we are seriously damaging our international alliances and the Argentine people will have to pay with a high investment costs.”
