Ciccone case: Carmona’s lawyer challenges Judge Rafecas’ authority

Diego Pirota, legal representative for businessman José María Núñez Carmona -friend and business partner of Vice President Amado Boudou – and investigated to determine whether he used his influence to purchase bankrupt currncy printing company Ciccone Calcográfica, challenged Federal Judge Daniel Rafecas' ability to remain neutral.

The magistrate is ahead of the judicial process that became known as the Ciccone case, the highly publicized affair that has put Vice President Amado Boudou under fire as the former Economy Minister is being investigated for having allegedly benefitted close friends to clinch the adquisition of one of the only 14 currency printing companies in the world.

Pirota placed doubts on Rafecas' ability to remain unbiased, State-run news agency Télam informed. According to the counselor, “he [Rafecas] has lost his impartiality to understand the case.”
