Woman accused of killing her son commits suicide
Adriana Cruz, the woman accused of choking her six year old son in a hot tub to death, committed suicide last night around 11pm. Cruz hung herself in the bathroom of the prison she was held until trial. The death was confirmed by Judge Juan Pablo Masi, and prosecutor Leandro Heredia.
Cruz was immediately taken to the Alejandro Korn Hospital in Buenos Aires province district of Melchor Romero, where she died this morning.
Masi said in remarks to a news channel that Cruz died as a result of "the brain damage caused by the lack of oxygen."
Likewise, the judge said that “she [Cruz] asked permission to go to the bathroom, where she tried to hang herself with a sock. Prison staff reacted immediately to rescue her but the damage generated was irreversible.”
Once detained Cruz bluntly said to reporters "I killed him to take revenge on his father,” as she was taken into custody in La Plata, Buenos Aires province’s capital.
Judge Juan Pablo Massi had reiterated that the 42 year old suspect born in Brazil, should be confined to a prison with psychiatric assistance.
Prosecutor Heredia, had ordered Cruz's arrest charging her with “first-degree murder”.
