Repsol’s Chairman calls for more dialogue, less 'imposition'
The head of the Spanish oil company Repsol, Antonio Brufau, sent a direct message to the government of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and said, “there should be no speeches or attempts to impose something, but try to establish more dialogue” to resolve the conflict that the oil giant has with the government and that could lead to the nationalization of YPF.
During radio conversations, the Spaniard businessman chose not to reveal Repsol's strategy to prevent the onslaught of the Kirchner administration, saying only that the situation will not be resolved by imposition.
“The conflict resolution has to be achieved in offices, in private, and not through public speeches. We are trying to make things the right way”, Brufau remarked and added; “We are trying to talk to whoever we have to talk within the Argentine government.”
Likewise, Brufau insisted “We must talk, talk, and talk, instead of imposing things.”
Spanish Repsol could lose its percent stake with YPF if the Argentine government decides to move forward on the expropriation or nationalization of the company due to a sharp decline of investment, hence oil and gas production, in the last decade according to Kirchner administration.
During his stay in the country last week, Brufau was received by the Planning Minister Julio De Vido, but failed to do the same with Fernández de Kirchner.
