CFK, Mujica meet in Olivos, discuss bilateral agenda
Uruguayan President José “Pepe” Mujica left Montevideo to make an unannounced visit to Argentina to meet his local counterpart Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. According to the presidential spokesman, “they spoke about several issues” during the encounter held at the Olivos residence.
Argentina’s presidential spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro stated in a press conference that the meeting lasted “half an hour” and added that “they spoke about every issue of the open agenda. It is part of the periodical meetings both presidents hold.”
The Uruguayan Head of State headed to the neighbouring country after the weekly Ministers Council meeting, in which he announced the trip.
Although sources said that the meeting was arranged 10 days ago, it was not officially announced until the last minute.
Within the last weeks, the Uruguayan government had expressed their complaints over the import controls set by Argentina and its effect in the industry.
