Royal Navy destroyer leaves England, sails to Malvinas
Friends and families wave off the British Royal Navy destroyer HMS Dauntless as she leaves port in Portsmouth, southern England and sets sail for a six-month deployment to the South Atlantic, including a patrol of the Malvinas Islands.
The Royal Navy informed that the warship will be relieving the HMS Montrose.
The Type-45 destroyer will maintain a continuous presence “protecting British interests in the region, carrying out maritime security operations off West Africa and the wider South Atlantic.”
The naval warfare service added: “She has been put through an intensive period of sea trials and training to prepare her for operations.”
Commanding Officer Captain Will Warrender said: “HMS Dauntless’ ship’s company has been working extremely hard over the past year or so to prepare for our first operational deployment. We are now ready to provide a reassuring presence in the region and protect British interests.”
