UK condemns riots at British embassy in Buenos Aires

Members of the extreme left-wing organization Quebracho clashed with police officials during a protest in front of the British embassy.

The Foreign Office condemned today what it called " violent actions of a minority" following yesterday's demonstration on the surroundings of the British Embassy located at the Recoleta neighbourhood, Buenos Aires City.

"All states are obliged under the Vienna Convention to provide appropriate protection for foreign diplomatic missions,” the statement read.

"We expect the Argentine Government to continue to fulfill its obligations under the convention and continue fully to enforce the law against any demonstrators committing criminal acts."

The ministry praised however the 'dedication and professionalism' of Argentinean police, who used tear gas and water cannons to dissolve the protests.

The unrest broke out on the 30th anniversary of the Malvinas War when members of the extreme left-wing organization Quebracho clashed with police officials outside the embassy.
