More ‘fine tuning’: DNI booklet no longer needed to vote, Gov't announces
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced that Argentines would no longer need to carry their DNI booklet to vote, and that the DNI card would be enough to prove their identity at the polling station.
Fernández de Kirchner said she would send a draft bill to Congress in order to amend the Electoral Code and remove the traditional cut out system used during election time.
“This little booklet is only good for voting. So now we’re making one more adjustment to the system: we will keep voting once every two years, but the electoral registers will have a cut out part that will be handed over to the citizens as their proof of vote,” she said in a ceremony at the Government House.
After spending the weekend in her Río Gallegos residence, Fernández de Kirchner resumed her activities on Monday at the Olivos presidential residence, where she met with several members or her cabinet.
At 11 am she met with Federal Planning Minister Julio De Vido and half an hour later had a private meeting with Economy Minister Hernán Lorenzino.
She later met with Deputy Economy Minister Axel Kicillof and Public Works secretary José López.
