Malvinas: Mission accomplished for Prince William, returns to UK

Britain´s Prince William (L) pilots a Sea King helicopter with Flight Lieutenant Alan Connor during a training exercise at Holyhead Mountain, north Wales, on March 31, 2011.
Prince William completed his 6-week Malvinas Islands post and left for England today, St. James Palace informed. The prince began duties on his “search and rescue” mission at the beginning of February.

The controversially-labelled visit sparked further criticism from Argentina and other countries in the region, as it coincided with a political rift with the UK over sovereignty of the islands and because it took place a few weeks prior to the 30th anniversary of the Malvinas War.

Flight Lieutenant William Wales, as he is known within the Royal Air Force, began his duties on February 4 at the at Mount Pleasant Complex, in the middle of resurfaced tension between the UK and Argentina over the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands.

The 29-year-old Royal Air Force pilot, second in-line to the British thrown, was sent to the Malvinas islands as part of a routine exercise, the UK Defence Ministry stated prior to the visit.
