World Bank considering additional US$3 billion credit for Argentina
President Cristina Fernández de Kircher met with the World Bank’s regional vice president for Latin America Hasan Tuluy for over an hour in the Government House and discussed with him the possibility of increasing Argentina’s credit for an additional 3 billion dollars.
Hasan met with Fernández de Kirchner after attending the Inter-American Development Bank’s annual conference in Montevideo, Uruguay.
“We didn’t discuss protectionism,” he said during a press conference he offered after the meeting in the Government House.
He also said that the World Bank is studying the possibility of increasing Argentina’s credit for an additional 3 billion dollars to the current 7 billion dollars.
Tuluy also assured that the credits would be focused on promoting sustainable and inclusive growth.
Some are still surprised that Argentina’s recent trade barriers were not discussed during the meeting, since Tuluy criticized any measure restricting world trade.
“In the long run, it would endanger some of the region’s goals,” he had warned.
