Taiana: 'Refusing to negotiate will cost the UK much more than doing so'

Former Foreign Minister, Jorge Taiana, told reporters that Argentina has made “a major achievement by making its sovereignty claim over Malvinas islands part of the international agenda”. Likewise, the former minister considered that claims are causing big troubles to the United Kingdom.

In addition, Taiana remarked that the United Kingdom “knows very well that they are in fault”, and added, “that’s why this is a very important moment for our government as positive results are already coming into light.”

In conversations with reporters, Taiana emphasized that now “many important actors have echoed Argentina’s claims and recognized the existence of the conflict”, and added, “I’m sure they [UK] were surprised by the great support Argentina received from other Latin American nations.”

Furthermore, Taiana called to “defend the natural resources of the islands”, as well to “persist on the claims and political pressure on the UK, as that’s the only way they would understand that refusing to negotiate will cost the much more than opening the dialogue.”
