Teachers urge Gov't to resume collective bargaining talks

SUTEBA secretary general, Roberto Baradel, stressed that the Government “should aim at figuring out a way to restart the dialogue with the teachers’ unions, and warned that the tent set up by teachers in front of City Hall will remain in place at least until the end of the month.

Baradel also remarked that “collective bargaining is the best way to move forward with dialogue and consensus” and regretted the recent statements made by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner during the opening of this year’s congressional session.

“Her statements were poorly received. They are unfair. The President made a mistake. Now it’s time to retake the collective bargaining discussion. The National Government’s goal should be reestablishing communications with us,” he said.

Baradel recalled that their calls to begin salary discussions started last November.

“We began this discussion in November so we wouldn’t have to reach this situation but we never got any response from the National nor the City governments,” he concluded.
