'Macri's resistance to take on the subway is unbelievable,' Lorenzino

Economy Minister Hernán Lorenzino questioned City Mayor Mauricio Macri’s “unbelievable resistance” to accept the transfer of the subway administration, and blasted his decision of increasing the fare by 127 percent, thus continuing the dispute between the National and City Governments over the takeover.

“Like we said in Congress with  (Planning) Minister Julio De Vido, Macri’s resistance to accept the transfer of the subway administration is unbelievable. The fact that he does not want to manage a service that is essential for the City and for the City residents in particular is unbelievable,” the Economy Minister said.

“Macri’s attitude of accepting the transfer, then raising the fare by 127 perent and then rejecting the transfer was messy,” and further insisted that the City has long claimed to manage the subway. “Macri has claimed this for a long time,” Lorenzino stressed.

The transfer of the subway service administration has caused a serious rift between the National and City administrations. Mayor Mauricio Macri insists he will only accept the transfer with all the necessary resources, including Federal Police officers to patrol stations and the subsidies, while President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's administration is adamant the service is handed over without national resources.
