Cameron: Obama backs UK’s rule over Malvinas

Obama supports the British rule over the Malvinas Islands, UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron said.
US President Barack Obama supports the British rule over the Malvinas Islands, UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron said at the end of a three-day visit to the United States, British newspaper ‘The Telegraph’ reported today.

"The US position is that they support the status quo, they don't argue against the status quo and that is very welcome," Cameron stressed as he visited the site of Ground Zero in New York.

"They are content with the status quo; they are not challenging the status quo,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

Cameron also defended the islander’s right to self-determination. "What I wanted to do in this 30th anniversary year is send a very clear signal to the rest of the world – Argentina and others – that while the Falkland Islanders (Malvinas) want that status Britain will help them keep that status."
