Rousseff: 'Argentina has a 20% inflation rate'

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.

While addressing the claims of unionists who were asking for subsidies similar to those put in place by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Brazilian President Dilma Roussed replied by assuring that Argentina’s annual inflation rate is 20 percent.

“You mention Argentina, but Argentina has a 20 percent inflation rate,” she said during a meeting with unionists.

Rousseff questioned the official Government figures as a counterargument to the unionists’ claims.

The workers were asking for new measures in support of the industry sector, to which the president replied that she will make a decision “at any time if necessary,” but added that she could not make one now because it is a “sensitive issue.”

The president’s perception of Argentina’s annual inflation rate is closer to the estimates obtained by private financial consultants and the opposition than those announced by the Government.
